Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line

ADSL Full Form is Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line. It is a kind of Digital subscriber line or digital subscriber loop technology used to transmit digital data at a faster rate over the telephone lines. It is mainly used in data communication technology to enable certain devices to connect to the internet. ADSL transmits data information on respective and related phone lines at a high bandwidth speed.

ADSL confirms that the connection is always on and stable. In this way, it is far better and effective than normal dial-up phone services. This digital line is called asymmetric because it uses most of its channels to transmit a huge amount of voice data in the form of analog data as a downstream process to the user, but it receives only a small part of information as the upstream process. ADSL exploits the one-way nature present in most of the multimedia communication technologies.

In order to use ADSL and regular telephone services on a single line, a user should install a microfilter. ADSL does not cover a huge geographical area. ADSL only works when an ADSL modem is installed and the users are not very far from each other in terms of their geographical locations provider’s location. ADSL can provide downstream data rates of up to 6 Mbps, whereas the upstream data rates is limited up to 640 Kbps.
