BTC Full Form is Bahamas Telecommunications Company. BTC refers to the principal telecommunications provider in the Bahamas. BTC has its headquarters in Nassau. The company is partially owned by the government and is engaged in the provision of the Internet, telephony, and wireless services.
In Grand Baham and New Providence, the company has in operation a GSM-based HSPA, EDGE, HSPA+, and LTE network. 49 percent of voting shares are owned by the Bahamas’ government, with the remaining voting shares owned by the company, Cable & Wireless Communications. 2 percent of the company’s economic shares are in a national trust.
The privatization of the BTC has a history which must be briefly looked into. In the year 2011, the Bahamas’ government and the Cable & Wireless Communications (abbreviated as CWC) signed an agreement, which resulted in the privatization of BTC. The document introduced fresh methods of payment such as online minute loading. It also facilitated the launch of a center for a single number call. The CWC—which is a London-based company—acquired 51 percent of the company by virtue of this agreement.
