Bangalore Development Authority
BDA Full Form is Bangalore Development Authority. BDA is a governmental organization based in Bangalore, India. It is the primary planning body for Bangalore. It has been established vide the Karnataka Town and Country Planning Act 1961 (abbreviated as KTCPA 1961), which treats it as a regulatory body that is involved in the preparation of a Comprehensive Development Plan (abbreviated as CDP). It also monitors the planning as well as development activities relating to infrastructure, housing needs of a certain unprivileged class of persons in Bangalore, provision of development services, etc.
The BDA is presently the largest land developer in the city and is the principal authority whose sanction is mandatory for undertaking any development activity in the Bangalore Metropolitan Region. The BDA was established in the year 1976 vide the Bangalore Development Authority Act 1976 and succeeded the previous civic body called the City Improvement Trust Board (abbreviated as CITR).
The BDA has undertaken the execution of several infrastructural activities in the city such as the Hebbal Flyover, the Outer Ring Road, etc. It is known to have developed many residential layouts of the city. The Authority has garnered accolades for the development of the Hebbal Flyover, which won the 9th Outstanding Bridge National Awards competition organized by the Indian Institute of Bridge, Engineers. Apart from this, the BDA has been appreciated for the restoration of Lalbaghlake, Agaram lake, etc.
