Full Form of SATA
Serial Advanced Technology Attachment
SATA Full Form is Serial Advanced Technology Attachment. SATA is a standard interface related to the system of the computer bus. It is a hardware interface that helps to connect host bus adapters like computers to mass storage devices like hard drives, CD and DVD drives, and SSDs (Solid State Drives). SATA is a successor, and the faster and more efficient serial version of PATA (Parallel Advanced Technology Attachment). It was created and introduced for the first time in 2003.
Since its introduction, SATA has become the first choice for using the serial link in the desktop and laptop computers of the consumers. SATA is an IDE (Integrated Drive Electronics) device. The main controller is placed in the drive and its operation needs a simple circuit to be placed on the motherboard. It operates through three layers of protocol which are named as physical Layer, link layer, and transport layer.
SATA ports accept internal configuration as they are directly linked to the motherboard through a cable. But eSATA (external SATA ) accepts external drives to be linked with it. It was standardized in 2004. Although SATA is widely used in consumer computers, it is rarely used in critical applications, high-end-workstations, and high-performance servers.
