These regulations are strictly maintained and implemented. The constituents of the list of companies are selected on the basis of quarterly market review and analysis. The index is prepared for a number of shares that are available for trading. Therefore, it heavily depends on a free floating factor.

This index reached its highest value on 27th April 2015. The listed companies are mainly international organizations. This is why critics and experts think that FTSE 100 cannot effectively indicate the market position and economical situation of the business sectors in the United Kingdom. They are of the opinion to use the FTSE All-Share index.
