As per the history, how this temple was formed is the most emotional thing. As per the Shiva Purana, Kartikeya got angry as the Lord Ganesh was married even after being a young brother of him. As per his thinking, he should be the first one to get married but instead of him, his little brother Ganesh got married first and because of this incident, he just went away (Kraunch Mountain) from the Kailash Parvat. All the god and goddess went to console him but he did not listen any one. Mother Parvati and father Lord Shiva were very sad because of this incident and later after trying each and every thing to make him comeback, he himself went to console Kartikeya. But as soon as Kartikeya got to know about the arrival of his parents at Kraunch Mountain, he escaped from there too. Later Lord Shiva gathered Jyotirlinga and decided to live their only. From that time that mountain got the name of Mallikarjuna because of the residential of Mallika which is another name of Parvati whereas Arjuna is for Shiva. From that time this place became one of the most holy places all around the world and it is said that, who so ever sees the top of this place gets the moksha and all the happiness.
