Full Form of RIP :

Rest in Peace

RIP Full Form is Rest in Peace. It is one of the most commonly used phrases in the social networking media and usually used in its abridged form, RIP. However, many people are ignorant about the history of this phrase, which many wrongly think has emerged from modern media. To everyone’s surprise, this phrase has a rich history, with its linguistic roots in Latin.

Translated from a Latin phrase, Requiescat in pace, it is an idiomatic phrase, which is an expression of peace and rest to someone who has died. The epithet or idiomatic expression, whatever you may prefer, generally appears on tombstones in its abbreviated form: RIP. The origins of this phrase can be traced from early Christian practices. In early times, the phrase dormit in pace, which literally translates into “he sleeps in peace” could be found on the tombstones of Christians starting from the 8th century.

The phrase has religious relevance, as it supposedly implies that the purpose has died peacefully as a Christian and united with the Christ in his afterlife. Many Christian denominations followed this tradition and have engraved the phrase RIP on their tombstones ever since then. There are some pieces of evidence that suggest that the phrase can be traced back from 1st century BC, particularly from the tomb of Bet Shearim.

There are many linguistic counterparts of this phrase popular across different regions of the world. Take, for example, Africans use the phrase “Rus in vrede”, Germans prefer “Ruhe in Frieden”, French use the phrase “Repose en paix “, etc. Keeping aside the religious connotations appended to the phrase, the phrase has acquired modern, non-religious usage, especially on social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter, etc. The usage is not confined to Christian burial ceremonies anymore and has become a global epithet for anyone, who wishes to give condolence, whether physically or online.

RIP Full Form: Routing Information Protocol

Full Form of RIP stands for Routing Information Protocol (IP). RIP is used by various network devices and computers in order to share all information related to traffic routes of the IP. The essence of RIP is to employ hop counts as a metric for routing and thus protects looping, as the number of hops is restricted to 15. However, this limit also restricts the network size supported by RIP.

One of the major benefits of RIP is the implementation of route positioning, hold-down, and split horizon mechanisms in order to prevent or intercept propagation of incorrect routing. Earlier, every RIP router used to transmit complete updates in 30-second intervals, as it was sufficient for the traffic. But currently, with the exponential increase in usage and traffic, RIP is not a priority for people. As there are OSPF, IS-IS and EIGR which are more compatible. Nevertheless, unlike the other protocols, there is no requirement of a router or any other parameters for RIP.

Full Form of RIP: Rust in Peace

RIP Full Form refers to Rust in Peace. On reading this, you might think about it as another religious phrase gone viral on social media platforms. You are wrong! It is not an epithet or phrase, whatever you call it, but the name of a studio album that ushered in a new age of thrash metal and created a legacy for future music aspirants.

The popular thrash Metal band Megadeth based in America had named its fourth studio album, Rust in Peace. Produced by Mike Clink, the album was released in the year 1990. The album is credited to have brought the band universal fame and garnered an enormous reputation for the band. The band has created history in the genre of metal, creating songs that many consider difficult to cover. The album is considered a masterpiece, being voted as the sixth best metal album ever

Rust in Peace is regarded as one of the best thrash Metal albums in the history and has been listed as 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die. Its glory does not end here, as it was also nominated for the 33rd Grammys. Hangar 18 and Holy Wars are signature songs on the album, which are regularly performed live. The album has been praised for its meaningful lyrics, and instrumental power and many critics have regarded it as the top-notch musical performance, which has raised the genre to a completely new level.

Since the album had set a new standard for Heavy Metal, it asserts great influence in the contemporary music industry, with many artists and bands following its legacy. Many covers have emerged with time; one of them being a cover version of Holy Wars by Steve Quimette, which was featured in Rock Revolution. The song has been a part of Guitar Hero: Warrior of Rock series for a long time.

RIP Full Form: Ribosome in-activating protein

Full Form of RIP refers to Ribosome in-activating protein. This deals with a protein synthesis inhibitor that functions at the ribosome and is of immense interest to the scientific community because of its potential effectiveness in the treatment of cancer.

Many plants produce this enzyme that works on the ribosome and inhibits synthesis of protein. Ribosome in-activating protein (RIP) is being frequently researched upon because of its antifungal, antiviral activities, which have become interesting to the scientific community. As for now, the research is confined to agricultural and medicinal purposes and it has found that RIPs have the potential to form “immunotoxins” that can eliminate malignant cells.

In the field of agriculture, researchers have found significant success in increasing resistance of plants against viruses, bacteria, fungi with the use of RIPs. Medicinal research on RIPs has not achieved many significant results but fingers are crossed as many consider RIPs as a breakthrough opportunity to do away many maladies of the body.

Full Form of RIP: Raster Image Processor

RIP Full Form stands for Raster Image Processor. It is a part used in the printing process, which produces bitmap that is a raster image. This bitmap is generally used at later stages of the printing process. The bitmap may be a page description language such as PostScript, or any other bitmap of higher or lower resolution. In simple terms, RIP is a hardware that converts images defined in the vertical graphic language into bitmaps. Laser printers utilize this software to produce images in a printable form. An RIP can be installed as a software in any operating system or a firmware program.

An RIP has three stages, which are indispensable to its functions. These three stages are Interpretation, Rendering, and Screening, each of them undertaking specific tasks and functions. The first stage is Interpretation, where the conversion of Page Description Language (PDL) into an internal representation. This process is repeated until all pages have been interpreted. This stage is followed by Rendering, which facilitates the process of conversion of private internal representation into a “continuous-tone bitmap”. In the last stage, the continuous tone bitmaps are converted into halftone with the help of two methods namely, Amplitude Modulation (AM) and Stochastic or Frequency Modulation (FM).

RIP Full Form: Restricted Isometry Property

Full Form of RIP stands for Restricted Isometry Property. It is an integral part of linear algebra that characterizes orthonormal matrices when operating on sparse vectors, which is software designed to trace faults in coding in the Linux Kernel. In the initial stages of its launch, the tool was directed to appease the users of Linux Kernel but eventually, its effectiveness became popular among other users of operating systems.

The concept is the brainchild of Emmanuel Candès and Terence Tao (both being two of the most renowned mathematicians of the world) and is majorly directed towards compressed sensing (which is a technique designed for the purpose of efficiently restructuring signals).

Full Form of RIP: Remote Imaging Protocol

RIP Full Form stands for Remote Imaging Protocol. Yet another RIP but too technical for many people. Remote Imaging protocol is concerned with vertical graphic and bandwidth links. RIP is designed to facilitate a system, which can effectively transfer vector graphics or low bandwidth links. It is a scripting language, which is a language designed specially to make certain human-operated tasks automatic. TeleGrafix Communications is credited to have created this language, initially for the purpose of improving the quality and performance of bulletin board systems.

The earlier versions of RIP were not that advanced and gave MS-DOS like working environment to the user. It included commands, generally buttons, to perform tasks and were arranged together in a straight line. However, with time, more developments were made in RIP like resolution independence, ability to function over telnet, etc. RIP, however, faced a decline in use and utility with the advent of World Wide Web, which was more likable to the general public taste.

The current status of RIP is not as great as that in early years and this is particularly due to the fall of bulletin board system after the emergence of World Wide Web. Nevertheless, versions are still produced and marketed. The most commonly used RIP version in the contemporary time is the 1.5x series.

RIP Full Form: The Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act 2000

Full Form of RIP refers to The Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act 2000. Also known as the RIP Act, it is an enactment of the Parliament of the United Kingdom, which came into force on 28 July 2000 after it has received the royal assent. Keeping in mind the surging need to intercept communication system in order to curb anti-national and terrorist activities, the Parliament enacted this law to regulate powers of public authorities, who would be empowered to carry out investigation and interception of communication. The rise of strong encryption techniques caused major apprehensions among parliamentarians and thus, the law was brought forth for discussion and passage.

The Act provides for certain regulatory mechanisms to determine the powers of public authorities while carrying out the object of the Act. The Act empowers specific public bodies to seek ISP addresses for surveillance, conduct mass investigation of communications, mandate delivery of secured information under exceptional circumstances, conduct monitoring programs on internet activities, etc. For the interception of a communication, typically by means of reading letters or tapping of calls, only HM Revenue and Customs, Secret Intelligence Service, Territorial Police Service of Scotland, Defence Intelligence, Government Communications Headquarters, and Security Service are authorized under the law.

The surveillance of communications may vary with the urgency of the situation like there can be directed surveillance (which includes following suspected persons), covert human intelligence surveillance (includes undercover agents and spies), intrusive surveillance (includes bugging and tapping of calls), etc.

Considering the numerous provisions on surveillance of communication, it was natural that the law would eventually get mired in constitutional controversy. Many challenged the law as extremely intrusive and violative of the right to privacy. There were incidents reported that showed that the law was deliberately misused by certain officials and that the officials empowered under the Act used oppressive methods to gather information.

Full Form of RIP: Repeat-Induced Point Mutation

RIP Full Form refers to Repeat-Induced Point Mutation. Observed only in certain fungi, Repeat-Induced Point Mutation (RIP) is a form of genome mutation that is directed towards repeating DNA sequences. It performs essential functions for the protection of fungal genome from transposon replication (which deals with a DNA sequence that tends to modify its position with the genome, resulting in mutations).

Repeat-Induced Point Mutation was first discovered in ascomycete Neurospora crassa during its reproductive cycle, particularly at a stage before meiosis and after fertilization. During this stage it was observed that RIP-induced mutation in DNA strands by inducing single-nucleotide point (SNP). Though scientists have failed to unearth any specific mechanism in this respect but there is a consensus that the process depends on cytosine methyltransferase (enzymes that methylate the amino group).

RIP has been found to influence the evolutionary characteristics of a fungal genome and has the potential to improve the evolution of genetic diversity. Many researchers claim that RIP has the potential to induce certain mechanisms in species, rendering them more adaptive to selection pressures.
